One Dead, One Rescued After Falls at Crabtree Falls, Virginia

On May 24, 2025, two hikers fell at Crabtree Falls in Nelson County, Virginia, resulting in one fatality and one critical injury. Deputies and rescue teams responded to the scene after reports of the falls, rescuing Keturah Hendricks, who had fallen 50 feet and was holding onto a rock to avoid being swept away by water currents. Approximately an hour later, emergency personnel located Taniya Flowers, who had fallen an additional 150 feet to a lower set of waterfalls and was found unresponsive underwater. Despite resuscitation efforts, Flowers was pronounced dead at UVA Medical Center early Sunday morning. The incident occurred after a group of hikers crossed a safety railing to take pictures, leading to the falls.
