Former Notre Dame Coach Gerry Faust Dies at 89
Gerry Faust, former head football coach at Notre Dame from 1981 to 1985, passed away at the age of 89. Hired directly from Archbishop Moeller High School, where he achieved significant success, Faust's tenure at Notre Dame was marked by a 30-26-1 record and only one bowl victory, the 1983 Liberty Bowl against Boston College. Despite the challenges and two losing seasons, Faust remained grateful for the opportunity, famously stating he would do it again even knowing the outcomes would be the same. He often attended Notre Dame games post-retirement and maintained a deep love for the university. Faust's coaching career continued at Akron, where he transitioned the program to Division I-A. His legacy includes developing numerous players who went on to have successful careers in football.
