Peet, fluent in Portuguese and with experience at outlets like Al Jazeera and The Times, did not inform her family about her travel plans, leading to concerns when they lost contact. Brazilian authorities, with support from the British Embassy, are actively investigating her disappearance, with the case now handled by São Paulo's 5th Missing Persons Division.
