Albuquerque Jersey Mike's Owner David Leyva Dies in Mesilla Single-Car Rollover

David Leyva, the owner of Jersey Mike's franchises in Albuquerque and Santa Fe, died in a single-vehicle rollover crash early Saturday morning in Mesilla, New Mexico. Leyva was driving a white BMW at a high rate of speed, exceeding the 35 mph speed limit, when he failed to negotiate a curve on Calle De Paso, struck a curb, went airborne, and rolled over three times before coming to rest near a park's water fountain. He was the sole occupant of the vehicle and was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. Despite life-saving efforts by emergency responders, Leyva died from his injuries en route to the hospital. The Mesilla Marshals Office is investigating the crash and awaiting toxicology results to assist their investigation. Authorities have also warned the public about scammers falsely claiming to have videos or information about the crash.
