US, China Exchange Accusations Over Ukraine in UN Security Council
At a United Nations Security Council meeting, the United States urged China to halt exports of dual-use goods to Russia, accusing Beijing of fueling Moscow's war effort in Ukraine by supplying components found in Russian drones, weapons, and vehicles. Acting U.S. Ambassador Dorothy Shea emphasized that China's claims of strict export controls are contradicted by evidence of Chinese-made parts in Russian military equipment, demanding China stop supporting Russia's aggression. China’s Deputy U.N. Ambassador Geng Shuang denied these allegations, stating that China is impartial in the conflict, has not provided lethal weapons, and rigorously controls dual-use material exports, including drones. Geng accused the U.S. of shifting blame and provoking confrontation, urging Washington to adopt a more constructive role in promoting ceasefire and peace negotiations. Recent reports reveal Chinese drone engines are covertly shipped to Russia via front companies, circumventing Western sanctions, highlighting China's ongoing economic and military cooperation with Russia despite official denials. The dispute at the UN underscores the broader geopolitical tensions surrounding the Ukraine conflict and the challenges in enforcing sanctions against Russia.
