Damien McDaniel, a 22-year-old man from Alabama, has been charged in connection with 14 murders, including the shooting deaths of Birmingham firefighter Jordan Melton and UPS employee Anthony Love Jr., as well as the murder of 21-year-old Mia Nickson. The Birmingham Police Department has categorized the murders of Nickson and Love as murder-for-hire cases. McDaniel is also implicated in two mass shootings that occurred in 2024, resulting in the deaths of 11 individuals and injuries to 29 others. Additionally, he faces charges for the attempted murder of Sergeant Jamal Jones, who survived the attack on the fire station where Melton was killed. His co-defendant, Charles Nance, is also charged in connection with the murder of Love. McDaniel is currently held without bond at the Kilby Correctional Facility while awaiting trial on these serious charges.
