Gresham Police Officer Resigns After 56 Child Sex Abuse Charges

Hector Carranza, a Gresham police officer employed since 2014, resigned from the department on September 5, 2025, following an indictment on 56 charges related to child sexual abuse and rape. The allegations involve inappropriate sexual conduct with a minor girl between 2014 and 2017 and include counts of rape, sodomy, sex abuse, and using a child in sexually explicit conduct, none of which are connected to his official duties or criminal investigations he participated in. The investigation began after an anonymous tip was sent to the FBI in November 2024, leading to Carranza being placed on administrative leave and later arrested on July 31, 2025. Prosecutors recovered over 11,000 social media posts between Carranza and the victim, who was 16 when the abuse started. Carranza pleaded not guilty to the charges and was released on bail under conditions prohibiting social media use and contact with minors except for his young child. The Multnomah County District Attorney emphasized that no one is above the law, affirming the commitment to hold law enforcement accountable.
