King Charles Knights Former England Captain David Beckham at Windsor Castle
David Beckham was knighted by King Charles at an investiture at Windsor Castle today, receiving the title Sir David in recognition of his services to sport and charity. The 50‑year‑old former England captain — who made 115 appearances for his country and starred for Manchester United, Real Madrid and other clubs — had long campaigned for the honour after an initial 2011 nomination was delayed by his entanglement in the Ingenious tax scheme and later cleared by HMRC. His wife Victoria attended in an elegant black gown and will now be styled Lady Beckham; both described the moment as a “truly humbling” and emotional milestone to share with family. The knighthood cites Beckham’s charity work, including two decades as a UNICEF goodwill ambassador, his role in helping secure the London 2012 Olympics and recent collaboration with The King’s Foundation. The ceremony followed the traditional investiture ritual (Beckham knelt and the King tapped his shoulders with a sword) and comes after he was earlier appointed OBE in 2003.
