Yoshida Takes First Base Reps in Rehab Return
Masataka Yoshida, Boston Red Sox outfielder and designated hitter, began his first game action since spring training on a rehab assignment with Triple-A Worcester after recovering from right shoulder surgery. Yoshida was seen taking ground balls at first base before the game, but both he and manager Alex Cora clarified this is strictly an emergency precaution, not a regular position change. The Red Sox have struggled to fill first base since Triston Casas’ injury, relying mainly on Abraham Toro and Romy González, with Kristian Campbell also getting time at the position in Triple-A. Yoshida remains focused on returning as a DH and outfielder, while the club views his work at first base as a way to boost lineup flexibility. Most reports suggest it is unlikely Yoshida will play first base in actual games, but the team is keeping all options open. In his first rehab appearance, Yoshida went 0-for-2 with a walk, and there is no set timeline for his return to the major league roster.
