Three Consecutive Supermoons Oct–Dec 2025
Early October brought a bright Harvest Supermoon—the first of three consecutive supermoons this season—visible around Oct. 6–7 and widely photographed from New York, Milan, London and cities across India. Space agencies reported the Moon was near perigee (SUPARCO gave a distance of about 224,599 miles/361,457 km), making it noticeably larger and brighter than average (estimates up to ~14% larger and ~30% brighter, with some agencies citing smaller percentages). The Harvest Supermoon's timing near the autumnal equinox accounts for its traditional name and extended rise dates. The October supermoon coincided with the Draconids meteor shower (Oct. 6–10) and preceded the Orionids peak on Oct. 21, though moonlight likely reduced meteor visibility. Two more supermoons are now expected on Nov. 5 and Dec. 4, closing the sequence in December 2025 rather than January. The event drew widespread media coverage, public viewings and galleries documenting the spectacle worldwide.
