UNN Disowns Minister Nnaji's Degree as Forged

A two-year Premium Times investigation concludes Minister Uche Nnaji forged both his University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) bachelor’s degree and the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) discharge certificate he used for his 2023 ministerial appointment. In a 2 October letter UNN confirmed Nnaji was admitted in 1981 but never completed his studies nor was awarded a degree, and NYSC told Premium Times the discharge certificate could not be authenticated. Internal documents show Nnaji failed a virology course (MCB 431AB) and was corresponding with UNN about re-sitting examinations months after he claimed to have graduated in July 1985. Nnaji has admitted in court filings that UNN never issued him a degree, and the university registrar has recanted an earlier statement that had said he graduated. Civil-society group Global Gender Safety and Moral Development has demanded his immediate resignation and referral to security agencies, and Nnaji failed to appear at a scheduled press briefing on the allegations, sending a spokesperson instead.
