Severe Storms Hit Mid-Atlantic, Widespread Outages

Severe storms struck the Mid-Atlantic on June 19, 2025, causing widespread damage, power outages, and travel disruptions across Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, and Washington, D.C. In the Philadelphia area, strong winds and heavy rain downed trees and power lines, leaving tens of thousands without power, including nearly 7,000 in Haverford Township and over 48,000 in Montgomery County. Central Virginia and parts of New Jersey also saw extensive outages, with nearly 60,000 affected in New Jersey. The D.C. area experienced road closures, property damage, and thousands of outages in Fairfax County. Emergency crews responded to hundreds of incidents, and officials warned residents to avoid downed wires and expect delays. The storms also caused significant travel disruptions, with over 400 flights delayed or canceled at Newark Liberty International Airport.
