Turkey has initiated an investigation into the death of Aysenur Ezgi Eygi, a Turkish-American activist who was killed by Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) during a protest in the West Bank. Justice Minister Yilmaz Tunc condemned the incident as an 'unlawful terrorist attack' and announced that the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Office is leading the inquiry. He emphasized Turkey's commitment to pursuing justice internationally, advocating for the UN Special Rapporteur on extrajudicial executions to intervene and establish an independent commission of inquiry. Eygi's body is set to be repatriated to Turkey for burial, with her family receiving support during this difficult time. Tunc also mentioned that findings from Turkey's investigation will be presented in ongoing legal actions against Israel, including a genocide case at the International Court of Justice. The IDF has expressed regret, stating that Eygi was likely shot by 'indirect and unintentional' fire during a riot.
