China Displays Nuclear Triad, New Missiles at Beijing Parade
China publicly displayed its full nuclear triad for the first time during a military parade in Beijing commemorating the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II. The triad includes new land-based intercontinental ballistic missiles (ICBMs) such as the DF-61 and DF-31BJ, the JuLang-3 submarine-launched intercontinental missile (SLBM), and the JL-1 air-launched ballistic missile (ALBM), carried by strategic bombers. This milestone enhances China's nuclear deterrence by providing flexible and survivable second-strike capabilities across land, sea, and air, allowing for rapid, unpredictable deployment and improving the ability to bypass missile defense systems. The parade also showcased advanced conventional weapons, including hypersonic missiles, laser and microwave anti-drone systems, and new armed drones, highlighting the modernization of China's military technology. Analysts consider the nuclear triad display a signal of China's growing strategic power aimed at safeguarding national sovereignty and increasing its global deterrence posture. The event was overseen by Chinese leader Xi Jinping and attended by Russian President Vladimir Putin and North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, emphasizing the geopolitical significance of the show of force.
