Bengals Legend Bob Trumpy Dies at 80
Bob Trumpy, an original Cincinnati Bengals tight end, died peacefully at 80 at home surrounded by family, the team announced. A 12th-round pick in the Bengals’ inaugural 1968 season, he played for Cincinnati from 1968–1977, scored the franchise’s first receiving touchdown and finished with 298 catches for 4,600 yards and 35 touchdowns, earning four Pro Bowl selections and early AFL All-Star honors. He was named to the Bengals’ 50th Anniversary Team. After retiring he launched a long broadcasting career beginning at NBC in 1978, teaming with Dick Enberg and calling multiple Super Bowls, Olympics and Ryder Cups, later working for Westwood One and hosting Cincinnati sports talk radio. The Pro Football Hall of Fame presented him the Pete Rozelle Radio‑Television Award in 2014, and Bengals president Mike Brown, teammates and fans paid tribute to his impact on and off the field.
