Gardaí Cancel 914 Speeding Fines Over Camera Location Error Kilkenny
An Garda Síochána has revoked 914 speeding fines issued by a static speed camera on the N25 in Kilkenny due to a human error in inputting the offence location into their processing system. This error caused incorrect locations to be listed on fixed charge notices issued between May 30 and June 30, 2025. Of the 914 notices, 128 had been paid with penalty points applied, 56 were paid before penalty points were added, and the remaining 730 had not been paid. The error was discovered on June 30, quickly rectified, and the speed camera resumed valid operation from July 4, 2025. Gardaí have contacted all affected motorists to revoke fines and penalty points, and no summonses will be issued for non-payment of these fines. Additional oversight measures will be introduced to verify offence locations before new cameras go live, and relevant authorities including the Departments of Justice and Transport and the Road Safety Authority have been informed.
