Axalta Unveils Heat-Resistant EV Battery Coatings at Detroit Show

Axalta Coating Systems has introduced two new coatings, Alesta e-PRO FG Black and Alesta e-PRO Dielectric Gray, engineered to enhance extreme heat protection and electrical insulation in electric vehicle (EV) battery applications. These products address safety concerns related to thermal runaway, a rare but serious risk where overheating battery cells can cause fires and explosions with temperatures exceeding 1200°C. Alesta e-PRO FG Black is designed for thermal stability and secondary fire protection, resisting ignition and smoke generation, while Alesta e-PRO Dielectric Gray provides robust electrical insulation for high-voltage environments. When integrated into validated original equipment manufacturer (OEM) battery systems, these coatings may improve thermal stability and electrical insulation performance, helping to delay fire propagation and enhance battery safety. Axalta emphasizes that these innovations reflect its ongoing commitment to advancing energy storage and automotive technologies amid growing EV adoption and consumer safety concerns. The products were unveiled at The Battery Show North America, underscoring Axalta's role in addressing evolving challenges in the EV market.
