America Movil Reports Q2 Profit Rise on Regional Revenue Growth
America Movil, the Mexican telecommunications giant controlled by Carlos Slim’s family, reported a significant turnaround in the second quarter of 2025, posting a net profit of 22.28 billion pesos ($1.19–$1.2 billion) compared to a net loss a year earlier. The company's revenues rose 14% to 233.79 billion pesos ($12.46–$12.54 billion), surpassing analyst expectations, boosted in part by favorable foreign exchange effects due to the Mexican peso's depreciation against other regional currencies. While service and equipment revenues both grew strongly, the company added 2.9 million postpaid mobile subscribers—driven largely by Brazil—but saw a net loss of 1.1 million prepaid users, reflecting a market shift to contracts. America Movil also recorded 462,000 new broadband connections, about half in Mexico, and ended the quarter with 325.7 million mobile and 78.5 million fixed-line subscribers. EBITDA rose 11% to 92.41 billion pesos ($4.96 billion), and comprehensive financing costs dropped sharply. Despite missing net income analyst estimates due to higher-than-expected prepaid subscriber disconnections, America Movil's diversified regional presence and currency gains provided resilience amid ongoing market competition.
