CPKC to resume operations

Canadian Pacific Kansas City (CPKC) is preparing to resume railway operations in Canada after the Canadian Minister of Labour invoked Section 107 of the Canada Labour Code to direct the Canada Industrial Relations Board (CIRB) to impose binding arbitration. This decision follows a significant rail stoppage that affected over 9,000 workers and disrupted the economy. CPKC expressed disappointment over delays in resuming service due to the Teamsters Canada Rail Conference's refusal to discuss resumption while they challenge the Minister's directive. Labour Minister Steven MacKinnon has emphasized the urgency of restoring operations to mitigate economic damage. Both CPKC and Canadian National Railway, which also faced a lockout, are poised to restart their services once the CIRB issues its order. The situation reflects a broader tension between collective bargaining rights and the immediate needs of the economy.
