Pusha T Criticizes Drake’s UMG Lawsuit as Industry Controversy Escalates

Pusha T has publicly criticized Drake's lawsuit against Universal Music Group (UMG), describing it as an action that "cheapens" the art of rap beef and diminishes the tradition of competitive artistry in hip-hop. The lawsuit, filed by Drake over Kendrick Lamar's song "Not Like Us," accuses UMG and Lamar of defamation, which UMG denies, labeling the suit as frivolous and a threat to free speech. Pusha T revealed that UMG pressured him to censor Kendrick Lamar's verse and even suggested dropping Clipse from the label after he refused to comply, which ultimately happened. He believes Drake's insistence on the lawsuit is linked to prior efforts to suppress his diss tracks, particularly following the 2018 "Story of Adidon" controversy. Despite the ongoing feud, Pusha T stated he does not rate Drake anymore and expressed reluctance to continue engaging unless he feels it necessary, emphasizing that litigation over rap lyrics undermines the culture's traditional verbal sparring.
