MG Motor Launches Windsor EV with Battery Rental Plan

MG Motor India has launched the Windsor EV at an introductory price of ₹9.99 lakh, marking a significant entry into the electric vehicle market with its unique Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) model, which allows customers to pay ₹3.5 per kilometer for battery usage instead of purchasing it outright. This strategy aims to make EV ownership more accessible by reducing the initial costs associated with buying an electric vehicle. The Windsor EV, equipped with a 38 kWh battery, offers a claimed range of 331 kilometers, combining luxury features and advanced technology to appeal to a broader consumer base. Additionally, MG Motor provides incentives such as a lifetime warranty for the battery, a 60% buyback guarantee after three years, and free charging for the first year at its stations. Meanwhile, Tata Motors is also cutting prices by 10-20% on its EV models, highlighting the competitive landscape as both companies strive to boost sales amid faltering growth in the Indian EV market. The overall goal for these manufacturers is to enhance EV adoption in a country where traditional gasoline and diesel vehicles remain dominant.
