Ten Inmates Escape New Orleans Jail Amid Inside Help Investigation
Ten inmates escaped from the Orleans Parish Jail in New Orleans, with authorities suspecting inside help from members of the Sheriff's Office, including possible lapses in security and defective cell locks. The escape was discovered during a Friday morning headcount, and one inmate, Kendell Myles, was quickly apprehended in the French Quarter using intelligence technology, while nine remain at large. Among the fugitives is Derrick Groves, convicted of multiple second-degree murders linked to the 2018 Mardi Gras Day shootings, and Corey Boyd, who has a pending second-degree murder charge. Sheriff Susan Hutson emphasized the difficulty of escaping without internal assistance and noted the involvement of supervisors and deputies on duty during the breach. The escapees exited through a compromised wall behind a toilet and then left the jail by scaling a wall and crossing Interstate 10, prompting a full-scale manhunt involving federal, state, and local law enforcement. Authorities have urged the public not to approach the fugitives and to report sightings immediately, while Louisiana Attorney General Liz Murrill condemned the situation as "beyond unacceptable."
