Beatriz Rapisarda, a 41-year-old teacher at Sunrise Elementary School in Palm Bay, Florida, has been arrested and charged with child abuse and false imprisonment after allegedly dragging a disabled student and locking her in a bathroom. Witnesses reported that Rapisarda pushed the student, restrained her by the wrists, and used a knee to pin the child down, applying significant pressure. The incident, which took place in a classroom for intellectually disabled students, reportedly included dragging the student approximately 30 feet to a restroom used as a form of punishment, where the child was left banging on the door for about ten minutes. Brevard Public Schools has placed Rapisarda on administrative leave while cooperating with the investigation. The charges against her were initiated following a thorough review of the evidence and sworn statements from witnesses, including the student's parents. The case has drawn significant attention to the treatment of special needs students in educational settings.
