The Kerala government is considering implementing a 'bag free days' initiative, allowing students from Class 1 to 12 to attend school without their heavy backpacks for at least four days each month. Education Minister V Sivankutty has noted that efforts to reduce the burden include distributing textbooks in two parts, yet concerns about bag weight persist. Guidelines are also being planned to limit the weight of school bags, specifying that Class 1 bags should weigh between 1.6 to 2.2 kg and Class 10 bags between 2.5 to 4.5 kg. The government aims to finalize decisions on these initiatives soon to alleviate the burden on students.
