Port St. Lucie Police Fatally Shoot Man Charging With Knife

Port St. Lucie police officers shot and killed 35-year-old Alexander Taylor after he charged at them with a large butcher knife during a response to a domestic violence incident. Officers arrived at the Spanish Lakes Golf Village community following a 911 call in which the victim reported being battered and warned that Taylor might attempt 'suicide by cop.' Police say Taylor ignored repeated commands to drop the weapon and ran toward the officers, prompting them to open fire in the street. Taylor sustained multiple gunshot wounds and was later pronounced dead at a local hospital. The two officers involved were uninjured but placed on paid administrative leave as the Florida Department of Law Enforcement investigates, in accordance with standard procedure. Neighbors expressed shock at the incident, describing the area as generally peaceful.
