Non-resident Indian (NRI) Sukhchain Singh was shot at his home in Amritsar by two armed assailants who demanded the registration documents of his luxury car. The attackers, linked to a family rivalry and possibly Singh's ex-in-laws, fired three shots at Singh, hitting him in the head and chest. Singh, who had recently returned from the US, was taken to a hospital in critical condition but is now recovering. The entire incident, which occurred in front of his family, was captured on CCTV. Police have identified the assailants and are investigating various motives, including threats from Singh's ex-in-laws and a possible property dispute. Opposition parties have criticized the local government for the deteriorating law and order situation in Punjab.
