Rep. Greene Introduces Bill to Ban Weather Modification Chemicals
Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) has introduced federal legislation that would make it a felony to inject, release, or disperse chemicals or substances into the atmosphere with the intent to alter weather, temperature, climate, or sunlight intensity. The bill, modeled after Florida's Senate Bill 56 signed by Gov. Ron DeSantis, seeks to ban geoengineering and weather modification practices such as cloud seeding, imposing penalties of up to five years in prison and fines reaching $100,000. Greene has emphasized concerns about the unknown long-term effects on human health, agriculture, and what she describes as God's natural order, calling for an end to what she terms the "dangerous and deadly practice" of weather modification. While some officials defend cloud seeding as a safe, established technology, Greene and supporters frame their bill as a necessary step to prevent chemical exposure and protect clean air, water, and sunlight. The legislation has drawn some co-sponsorship, including from Rep. Tim Burchett (R-TN), but has yet to be formally introduced on the House floor. Critics note that the bill aligns with conspiracy theories surrounding "chemtrails," which scientists say are contrails composed mainly of water vapor.
