Three Iowa Men Die in Mississippi River Accident
Three Iowa men tragically died after their boat capsized on the Mississippi River near Bellevue, Iowa, on Sunday morning. The incident occurred below Lock and Dam No. 12, where the victims were fishing in a restricted area known for hazardous backflow currents from the dam. Despite emergency responders' efforts, all three men drowned; two were declared dead at the scene, and the third died later at MercyOne Dubuque Medical Center. The victims have been identified as 30-year-old Mitchell Thomson from Stanwood, 40-year-old Nicholas Thomson from Tipton, and 61-year-old Kirk Stout Sr. from Marion. The Iowa Department of Natural Resources is investigating the accident further, focusing on the dangerous conditions created by the dam's operation. This was one of two fatal boating incidents reported in Iowa on the same day.
