Public Hearings Set for Route 28, Cedar Neck Road, and Parkway East Interchange Improvements

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) is hosting public meetings to gather feedback on proposed improvements to the Squirrel Hill interchange on the Parkway East, which has been ranked among the top ten worst in the U.S. and UK due to its dangerous traffic patterns. The plans, which could cost up to $100 million, aim to enhance safety by reconfiguring ramps, adding traffic signals, and possibly constructing a roundabout. Public input is being sought during a meeting at Greenfield Elementary School, where various design alternatives will be presented. While the interchange's tunnel configuration will remain unchanged, PennDOT hopes to alleviate traffic conflicts by modifying existing ramps and improving local intersections. The project is still in early design stages, with funding already scheduled through the Southwestern Pennsylvania Commission's Transportation Improvement Program.
