Texas Father Charged After Daughter, 10, Fatality Hits 6-Year-Old Stepson

Clinton Earl Johnson Jr., a 31-year-old man from Lufkin, Texas, was arrested and charged with criminally negligent homicide after he directed his 10-year-old daughter to move his pickup truck while he was intoxicated. The girl, attempting to 'scoot up' the vehicle so she could ride her tricycle, became confused and accidentally accelerated, crashing into the porch and fatally striking her 6-year-old stepbrother. Both Johnson and the child's mother admitted to having consumed several alcoholic drinks while grilling outside with the family. Johnson told authorities that he had previously allowed his daughter to drive on back roads. Deputies responding to the scene found evidence of the crash and smelled alcohol on both parents. Johnson was booked into the Angelina County Jail and released on bond; the investigation is ongoing and it is unclear if he has obtained legal representation.
