City of London seizes 100+ obstructive e-bikes

The City of London Corporation has confiscated over 100 dockless e-bikes during a two-week enforcement campaign aimed at addressing safety concerns and pavement obstructions caused by poorly parked bikes. The seized bikes were stored for 24 hours before operators could reclaim them for a fee. This crackdown follows numerous complaints and is part of a broader initiative to encourage e-bike operators, such as Lime and Forest, to manage their fleets responsibly. The Corporation plans to add 300 new parking spaces for e-bikes to improve compliance and reduce hazards. Both Lime and Forest have committed to enhancing their services, with Lime launching a safety campaign and contributing to new parking infrastructure. Shravan Joshi, Chair of the Corporation’s Planning and Transportation Committee, emphasized the need for ongoing pressure to ensure meaningful results from the operators.
