Bird Poop Evidence Leads to Arrest in Michigan Businessman Shooting

Jasan Delanta Martin, 32, was arrested in connection with the October 14 shooting of businessman Eddie Jawad at his home in Macomb Township, Michigan. Martin allegedly climbed a fence, entered Jawad's property, and shot him as he drove out of his garage, injuring him in the legs before fleeing the scene on foot and then by vehicle. Authorities faced difficulty tracking Martin's Ford Escape SUV because it had a stolen license plate and was borrowed from a family member, but investigators used unique forensic evidence including brake dust, smudges, and a distinctive smudge of bird poop on the vehicle to confirm it was the same car involved in the crime. Surveillance footage and extensive investigative efforts involving local, state, and federal resources supported the case against Martin, who was on parole for previous offenses including kidnapping and assault. He faces multiple charges including assault with intent to murder and felony firearms possession, and could face life imprisonment if convicted.
