Athletics Claim Angel Perdomo Off Waivers, DFA Ruiz

The Oakland Athletics have claimed pitcher Angel Perdomo off waivers from the Los Angeles Angels, marking a significant addition to their bullpen. Perdomo, a 30-year-old left-hander, previously struggled with an 8.24 ERA during his time with the Milwaukee Brewers but rebounded in 2023 with the Pittsburgh Pirates, posting a 3.72 ERA in 30 relief appearances. Following Tommy John surgery, he missed the entire 2024 season before being released by the Pirates and subsequently designated for assignment by the Angels. To accommodate Perdomo, the Athletics designated outfielder Esteury Ruiz for assignment, despite Ruiz's notable speed and record-setting performance as a rookie in 2023. Ruiz had a disappointing 2024 season, contributing to the decision to move him off the roster. Perdomo is expected to fill a middle-relief role with the Athletics soon.
