Clive Lloyd Criticizes Proposed Two-Tier Test Cricket Structure

Clive Lloyd, the two-time ODI World Cup-winning captain, has strongly criticized the proposed two-tier structure for Test cricket, arguing it threatens the future of teams like the West Indies. He believes this system, which would allow cricket's 'Big Three' (India, Australia, and England) to play each other more frequently, could effectively dismantle the efforts of countries striving for Test status. Lloyd called for the ICC to focus on increasing match opportunities for struggling teams instead. He expressed concern that relegation to a lower tier would hinder development and competitive opportunities for these nations. The ICC's Indian chairman Jay Shah is reportedly meeting with representatives from Australia and England regarding this proposal, which has sparked significant debate. Former India coach Ravi Shastri supports the idea, claiming it could help Test cricket survive against the rising popularity of T20 leagues.
