Dr. Brad Bomba Faces Lawsuit Over Abuse Claims

Dr. Brad Bomba Sr., a former Indiana University athletics physician, invoked his Fifth Amendment right against self-incrimination 45 times during a deposition related to a federal lawsuit alleging sexual abuse by him in the 1990s. Accusations from former players Haris Mujezinovic and Charlie Miller claim Bomba performed unnecessary and invasive rectal examinations under the guise of medical care. During the deposition, Bomba declined to answer questions about whether he was instructed by former coach Bob Knight to conduct such exams, as well as inquiries about reporting any abuse. Plaintiffs' lawyers have since filed a motion to compel Bomba to answer certain questions, arguing that some could not possibly incriminate him. Bomba, now 88, had a long tenure with IU's athletics department, where he is accused of exploiting his position. The lawsuit is filed under Title IX, which mandates protections against sexual misconduct in federally funded education programs.
