Guards Named to Cousy, Jerry West Watchlists

Several college guards were named to Naismith Award preseason watch lists, including Bob Cousy Top 20 selections and a Jerry West list addition. The Cousy Top 20 includes Florida’s “Boogie” Fland, UConn’s Silas Demary Jr., Louisville freshman Mikel Brown Jr., and Kentucky’s Jaland Lowe. Fland averaged 13.5 points and 5.1 assists as a freshman at Arkansas, Demary averaged 13.5 points and 3.1 assists with a 37.4% three‑point mark, Brown is a 6‑5 freshman and U19 World Cup gold‑medalist who scored 10 points in his exhibition debut, and Lowe averaged 16.8 points and 5.5 assists last season and recorded a triple‑double at Pitt. Separately, Florida senior transfer Xaivian Lee was named to the Jerry West Award watch list for shooting guards and is coming off consecutive First‑Team All‑Ivy selections with a 36.6% three‑point mark. The Cousy watch list will be trimmed to 10 in late January and to five in February/March ahead of winners being announced at the Final Four.
