Dinesh Chandimal Scores Century in Second Test
On the opening day of the second Test against New Zealand, Sri Lanka's Dinesh Chandimal scored a commanding 116 runs, helping his team reach 306 for three at stumps. Despite an early loss of opener Pathum Nissanka, Chandimal partnered with Dimuth Karunaratne and Angelo Mathews, who contributed 78 and 51 runs respectively. Chandimal's century marked his sixth at the Galle venue and his 16th overall, while Kamindu Mendis achieved a world record for scoring half-centuries in each of his first eight Tests. The New Zealand bowlers struggled with fielding errors, including missed catches and a stumping opportunity, allowing Sri Lanka to capitalize and build partnerships. The match began with the backdrop of mourning for former Black Caps manager Ian Taylor, as New Zealand players wore black armbands in his honor. Sri Lanka leads the two-Test series 1-0 after winning the first Test by 63 runs.
