NATO Launches Operation Baltic Sentry

NATO has launched Operation Baltic Sentry to safeguard undersea power and communication cables in the Baltic Sea, deploying uncrewed surface vessels and additional ships amid fears of foreign sabotage. This operation follows incidents where cables were damaged, initially suspected to be acts of Russian sabotage due to increased Russian naval activity. However, U.S. and European intelligence officials now believe these damages were likely accidental, caused by inexperienced crews and poorly maintained vessels. Despite Russia's denial of involvement, tensions remain high, exacerbated by Russia's alleged hybrid warfare activities in Europe. The NATO mission aims to enhance situational awareness and security of critical infrastructure in response to these threats and will continue for an undisclosed duration.
