Cillian Murphy Stars in Netflix Drama Steve

Oscar-winner Cillian Murphy stars in and produces Steve, a Netflix drama adapted by Max Porter from his acclaimed novella Shy and directed by Tim Mielants. Set in the 1990s, the film follows Steve, a headteacher at a last-chance reform school, as he faces the school's potential closure and his own mental health struggles. The story also highlights Shy, a troubled student played by Jay Lycurgo, dealing with his past and self-destructive impulses. The ensemble cast includes Tracey Ullman, Simbi Ajikawo, and Emily Watson, with a score by Ben Salisbury and Geoff Barrow. Steve will have a limited theatrical release in September and stream globally on Netflix from October 3, 2025. Murphy’s involvement follows his Oscar win for Oppenheimer and precedes his return as Tommy Shelby in the Peaky Blinders film.
