USA Sweeps Gold in 2025 FIBA Basketball Finals
Team USA's women's basketball team, led by Hannah Hidalgo and Olivia Miles, won gold at the 2025 FIBA Women's AmeriCup in Chile, defeating Brazil 92-84 and clinching a spot in the 2026 FIBA World Cup. Mikayla Blakes of Vanderbilt was named tournament MVP, while Hidalgo was selected to the All-Star Five and Miles led the tournament in assists. The U.S. women went undefeated, winning all seven games by an average of nearly 37 points. In the men's competition, Arizona recruit Koa Peat made history as the most decorated player in Men’s Junior National Team history as Team USA captured gold at the FIBA U19 World Cup, also maintaining a perfect 7-0 record with a win over Germany in the final. Both teams’ victories underscored the depth of American college basketball talent and elevated the profiles of their programs and coaches, including Arizona's Tommy Lloyd. The wins were widely celebrated by the NCAA basketball community.
