Sri Lankan Drug Kingpin Shot Dead in Court
In a dramatic incident in Colombo, Sri Lanka, notorious gang leader Sanjeewa Kumara Samararathne, also known as Ganemulle Sanjeewa, was shot dead inside a courthouse by an assailant disguised as a lawyer. The shooter, who initially fled the scene, was later arrested, and used a revolver smuggled into the courthouse in a hollowed-out book by an accomplice, who remains at large. This event has highlighted security concerns in the judicial system and is part of a series of gang-related shootings in the country this year, with nine fatalities reported. Sanjeewa, a reputed drug kingpin and murder suspect, was under heavy escort when attacked. Authorities have launched an investigation, are reviewing security protocols, and the government has reiterated its commitment to tackling organized crime and gang violence in Sri Lanka.
