Indian Army Integrates AI Platforms to Enhance Combat Operations Nationwide

The Indian Army is advancing its modernization efforts by integrating artificial intelligence (AI) into its core operations to enhance speed, precision, and decision-making in national security challenges. During Operation Sindoor, AI applications such as the Electronic Intelligence Collation and Analysis System (ECAS) and the Trinetra platform were effectively deployed, enabling improved coordination, situational awareness, and strategic dominance. Lt Gen Rajiv Kumar Sahni emphasized the development of an indigenous unified AI platform that integrates operational, intelligence, logistics, and training applications on a secure framework with a structured and cautious adoption approach. The Army prioritizes AI use in reducing risks to personnel, improving decision-making, and ensuring resilience, while maintaining strong ethical governance and testing to ensure reliability and transparency. Additionally, collaboration with civilian agencies led to advancements like the AI-powered weather forecasting tool 'Anuman 2.0,' and efforts are underway to upskill personnel and establish a Defence AI Governance Council for responsible AI deployment. These initiatives reflect the Army’s commitment to becoming a technology-driven, future-ready force under its “Decade of Transformation” and “Year of Technology Absorption” programs.
