Pedestrian killed by alleged DUI driver in Las Vegas

A 23-year-old pedestrian was killed after being struck by a suspected drunk driver on the sidewalk along Warm Springs Road near Jones Boulevard in the southwest Las Vegas Valley late Tuesday afternoon. Police say the driver, identified as Daniel Stakleff, left the roadway, hitting a light pole and then the pedestrian, who was pronounced dead at the scene. Evidence from the crash, including witness statements and camera footage, supported the account that the vehicle veered onto the sidewalk before the collision. Authorities closed Warm Springs Road in both directions between Jones Boulevard and Torrey Pines Drive during the investigation. The incident marks the 63rd traffic-related fatality in the area this year, and police have indicated that driver impairment is suspected as the investigation continues.
