Lubbock Deputy-Involved Shooting Kills Suspect, Deputy on Leave
A deputy-involved shooting occurred on the 9100 block of Highway 87 in Lubbock County when officers responded to a 911 call about a man armed with a gun. The suspect, identified as 60-year-old Jose Luis Nunez Morales, ignored deputies' verbal commands and drew a handgun, prompting one deputy to fire. Morales was critically wounded, received first aid from deputies on the scene, and was transported to University Medical Center, where he later died. The deputy involved has been placed on administrative leave as the Lubbock Metropolitan Special Crimes Unit investigates the incident. Authorities confirmed there was no ongoing threat to the public, and one other person was evaluated for injuries but was unharmed. The investigation remains active, with more details expected in the coming days.
