Skye Blakely Out of Olympic Trials After Injury
Skye Blakely, a top contender for the U.S. women's gymnastics team, sustained a right Achilles injury during floor exercise training on Wednesday at the Olympic Trials venue in Minneapolis. This injury forces Blakely, who was a strong favorite to make her first Olympic team after finishing second to Simone Biles at the U.S. Championships, out of the competition. The 19-year-old gymnast, who previously withdrew from the Tokyo Olympic Trials due to an elbow injury, was carried off the floor in tears and wheeled out of the arena by medical staff. Blakely’s absence opens opportunities for other gymnasts such as Kayla DiCello and Jordan Chiles. The Olympic Trials will continue as scheduled, determining the final five-woman team for the Paris Olympics.
