Bus Accident in Brazil's Alagoas Kills 23
A tragic bus accident in Brazil's northeastern Alagoas state has resulted in the deaths of 23 people, including a pregnant woman, when the vehicle plunged into a ravine on Sunday. Authorities reported that 22 individuals died at the scene, while one succumbed to injuries later in the hospital. The bus was carrying approximately 40 passengers and the accident occurred near Uniao dos Palmares, an area with significant historical relevance related to escaped slaves. Over 20 people were also reported injured and taken to local hospitals. In response to the tragedy, state governor Paulo Dantas announced three days of mourning. The incident is particularly poignant as it coincides with Brazil's Black Awareness month, highlighting a deeper societal reflection on racial history and tragedies.
