Man Charged After High-Speed Pursuit, Shooting at Officers in Dakota County, Sioux City
Daniel Wenzel, 38, was arrested after a high-speed pursuit that began in Dakota County, Nebraska, and ended in Sioux City, Iowa, involving multiple law enforcement agencies. Wenzel, wanted on felony warrants for parole violation and domestic assault, led police on a chase reaching speeds up to 100 mph and fired shots at officers during the pursuit. Authorities deployed tire deflation devices twice and eventually stopped the vehicle using a PIT maneuver on U.S. Highway 75 near Lewis Boulevard. After the car was stopped, Wenzel fled on foot, assaulted officers, and resisted arrest, causing injuries to law enforcement personnel and damage to a squad car. A search of his vehicle revealed a loaded handgun, methamphetamine, cocaine, marijuana, and drug paraphernalia, leading to charges including attempted murder of police officers and possession with intent to deliver controlled substances. A woman passenger was in the vehicle but was not charged or considered a person of interest.
