Met Gala 2025 Announces 'Tailored for You' Theme Celebrating Black Dandyism

The 2025 Met Gala, set for May 5 at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, will honor Black dandyism and the legacy of Black tailoring with its theme, 'Superfine: Tailoring Black Style' and dress code, 'Tailored for You.' Co-chaired by Pharrell Williams, A$AP Rocky, Lewis Hamilton, and Colman Domingo, the event aims to celebrate Black cultural history, resilience, and creative innovation in fashion. Drawing inspiration from Monica L. Miller’s book, 'Slaves to Fashion,' the gala highlights how sartorial excellence has served as both expression and resistance within Black communities. Anna Wintour, leading the event’s preparations, emphasizes creative freedom for guests to interpret the theme while spotlighting traditions often overlooked in mainstream fashion. This year’s gala will feature bespoke suits, historic references, and bold expressions of individuality, centering Black contributions to global fashion. The Met Gala’s focus is seen as a long-overdue recognition of Black designers, artisans, and cultural influence.
