63rd New York Film Festival Unveils Diverse Main Slate From 26 Countries
The 63rd New York Film Festival, running from September 26 through October 13, has revealed its Main Slate and Currents lineups, showcasing a diverse range of films from around the world. The Main Slate features 34 films from 26 countries, including two world premieres and several award-winning titles such as Jafar Panahi’s Palme d’Or winner "It Was Just an Accident," Mary Bronstein’s "If I Had Legs I’d Kick You" starring Rose Byrne, and Noah Baumbach’s "Jay Kelly." The festival also highlights films that premiered at other major festivals like Venice, Cannes, and Berlin, reflecting a commitment to cinematic art's resilience and variety. The Currents section adds 40 boundary-pushing films, including Ben Rivers’ post-apocalyptic "Mare’s Nest" and works by Tsai Ming-liang and Radu Jude. Festival Artistic Director Dennis Lim emphasized the festival's role in defending and celebrating film as an art form, noting the selected movies span acts of rejuvenation, refusal, and commemoration while exploring social and political themes relevant today. Bradley Cooper’s "Is This Thing On?" will close the festival, with Jim Jarmusch’s "Father Mother Sister Brother" as a Currents Centerpiece screening.
