Ismail Sabri named suspect in RM700 million graft probe
Former Malaysian Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob has been named a suspect in a corruption investigation involving RM700 million linked to his administration's publicity campaign. The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) confirmed that Ismail is under scrutiny after significant assets, including RM170 million in cash and 16kg of gold, were seized from various locations. MACC Chief Commissioner Azam Baki stated that Ismail's wealth declaration was submitted as part of the investigation, and he will be questioned further regarding the seized funds. This case adds to a troubling history of corruption allegations involving Malaysian leaders, with every prime minister since 2009 facing scrutiny. The investigation is ongoing, and various individuals connected to Ismail's administration have also been detained. The MACC continues to trace financial connections and examine the legality of the funds involved.
